Founded in the Bronx on July 6th, 1895, Van Cortlandt is the oldest public golf course in America. According to local papers that year, a lack of greens fees led to "poor playing conditions, unmanageable crowds and a general lack of golf etiquette." Sounds like my local muni on a Saturday morning.
